Water Safety Plan ++ (WSP++)
Water supply standards concern both water quantity and water quality, as well as reliability of service now and in the future. Therefore, WSP++ is more than water quality.
WSP++ covers both short- and long-term operation & maintenance issues, as well as water tariff. We have merged the WSP into the Operation and Maintenance Plan (O&M) given that there are several aspects of WSP that need regular attention together with other O&M tasks. WSP++ addresses human, environmental and climate-induced risks and hazards from water catchment to mouth.
The WSP has six steps:
(1) Team formation
(2) System analysis
(3) Identifying hazards
(4) Preparation and implementation
(5) Monitoring and verification
(6) Review and documentation
The steps are described in detail in the Water Safety Plan Guidelines for gravity, lift and overhead tank schemes.Our approach to water safety planning is receiving increasing attention, broadening the scope from ensuring water quality and quantity to also considering physical risks to the system.
