Our Purpose and Objectives

Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Western Nepal Phase II (RWSSP-WN II) is a bilateral development cooperation project funded by the governments of Nepal and Finland. The Phase II started in September 2013 and ends in August 2019.

The overall objective, which RWSSP-WN supports the Government of Nepal (GoN) to achieve, was improved health and fulfilment of the equal right to water and sanitation for the inhabitants of the Project area.

The purpose of Phase II was to ensure the poorest and excluded households’ right to access safe and sustainable domestic water, good health and hygiene is enabled through a decentralized governance system with improved effectiveness of rural water supply and sanitation services.

We worked according to the national policies, guidelines, planning processes, rules and regulations of Nepal and promote decentralization, gender equality and social inclusion and greater harmonization in the WASH sector.

We strengthened the capacity of local governments in the municipalities to deliver services in water supply, sanitation and hygiene. Municipality programmes were implemented by the Municipality WASH Units.

The Competent Authorities of the Project were the Ministry of Finance (MOF), representing the Government of Nepal, and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (MFA), representing the Government of Finland, represented in Nepal by the Embassy of Finland, Kathmandu.

Within the Government of Nepal, RWSSP-WN Phase II was managed in the Department of Local Infrastructure Development  (DoLI) under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA).

The Technical Assistance consultant for RWSSP-WN II and RVWRMP III is FCG International (Finnish Consulting Group Ltd.), Finland.
