April 25, 2015, Nepal was shaken by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake. Finland is supporting the reconstruction effort in many ways. The Rural Village Water Resources Management Project (RVWRMP) and the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project – Western Nepal (RWSSP-WN), both implemented by FCG International, are each providing three technical experts, drivers and vehicles to participate in the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) under coordination umbrella of Ministry of Urban Development / Department of Water Supply and Sewerage. Coordination is coming provided by the Embassy of Finland. Our teams will work with three of the badly affected districts – Gorkha, Lamjung and Dhading – and will focus on assessing the water and sanitation damage and reconstruction needs.
The key objective of the PDNA is for the Government of Nepal to assess the impact of the earthquake and define a recovery strategy including its funding implications, from restoration of livelihoods, economy and services to rehabilitation and reconstruction of housing and infrastructure. The PDNA is led by the National Planning Commission, with participation from the EU, the UN, the WB and various bilateral donors.
