Total Immunization and Total Sanitation Declaration: Good Reasons to Celebrate

Nayagaon VDC of Pyuthan celebrated two different achievements on 29th March 2015: Ward no 6 was declared as Total Behavior Changed Ward and the VDC itself as full immunization confirmation.

 

The VDC is 8th immunized VDC and the Ward is 3rd total sanitation (total behavior change) declared ward in Pyuthan district. After declaration of district as ODF exactly two years before, communities are moving ahead to declare their as total behavior change in sanitation and hygiene. 

 

57 households of Nayagaon VDC ward no 6, with 44 Chhetri, 8 Brahmin and 5 Dalit, declared themselves that they all have permanent toilet and its used regularly by all members of family, all the households have Point of Use (PoU) drinking water treatment system, all the family members wash hands with soap in critical times, all the households have constructed solid waste pit to dispose bio-degradable and non-degradable items separately. Liquid waste generated from the households is properly drained out to kitchen gardens. 

 

The movements is led by the women in the community. They show their happiness through dancing, singing and drama play which will be remembered.  Female Community Health Volunteers in support of local Health Post and District Health Office will continue monitoring of the achievements.
